Our thoughts and prayers go out to Teddy and Mary Ann Sundown’s family. Mary Ann and Teddy taught us everything. They fully lived their lives respecting our way of happiness. Their passion for sharing Yup’ik knowledge transformed the pride of us all. Every song and move that they shared were prayers for us the next generation. PAMYUA’s excited for another season of Discovery Channel’s hit show FLYING WILD ALASKA (Season 2). This clip features a song from PAMYUA’s upcoming album. The song “Bubble Gum,” composed by Ossie, comes on about a minute into the clip. The playful song is perfect after Flying Wild Alaska pilot John Ponts recovers from a painful face-plant snow skating down an icy Arctic hill.

The clip is titled “Suicide Hill.”

PAMYUA members met people from all over the nation and reconnected with old friends. Back on the stage, PAMYUA was happy to work again with emcee Michael Horse. Also returning, award-winning artist David R. Boxley represented the Git-hoan Tsimshian Dance Group. David was awesome!

The Native American Community Development Institute (aka NACDI) is hosting a mega P-A-R-T-Y right in the heart of Minneapolis.

It’s called the TWIN CITIES AMERICAN INDIAN ARTS FESTIVAL. The event features award-winning bands, many popular artists AND there will be opportunities to discover breakthrough talent.

The festival of course celebrates community pride and cultural diversity but it’s really a demonstration of dedication, hard work and vision by the folks at NACDI.

The festival grounds will be outside the Minneapolis American Indian Center (16^th Avenue South and East Franklin Avenue).  NACDI President Justin Huenemann is excited to host this inaugural event at what was formally known as a homeless camp.  “This is an opportunity for us to strengthen and revitalize our community and to celebrate our diverse talents,” Huenemann said.

Alaskan Inuit group PAMYUA will be traveling the furthest and will perform twice (June 11 at 2pm and June 12 at 4pm). Yaqui classical guitarist GABRIEL AYALA will be coming form southern Arizona to join many other feature guests at the event.

PAMYUA is excited to perform in Minnesota for the first time and to hopefully collaborate with the Native Pride Dancers (featuring fancy dancer Larry Yazzie pictured above).  Who knows, one of the PAMYUA folks might even compete either in the American Indians GOT TALENT or Hand Drum contests, either way its going to be a great time. A few weeks ago PAMYUA performed at the 1ST ANNUAL INDIGENOUS MUSIC BASH in Flagstaff, Arizona. We’d like to commend the C.H.E.I. CLUB (Connecting Higher Education Indigenously) at the Northern Arizona University for their hard work and dedication in making this BASH a success. The student group coordinated the festival lineup featuring: Jay Begaye, Kupa’Aina, Blackfire, Nations Ensemble, Wade Pernandez, Pax Harvey and Pamyua. All of this right during NAU finals!

Right before the flight PAMYUA did a photo shoot with Steven Toya, a local photographer. A big thank you to Steven Toya, Nick Sucick, Noel Soma and all of the faculty and students that helped put this together. We wish you the best in next years BASH!

Earlier this year PAMYUA performed Larry Grahams funk classic HAIR with a power house group of Alaska musicians at Anchorage’s Tap Root.

Lineup: David Nathanson (BASS), Brandon Cockburn (DRUMS), Nick Petumenos (KEYS), Ivan Night (GUITAR), Nathan Michalski (DIDGEREDOO). Pamyua’s Phillip, Karina and Ossie are on vocals.
