The best-of-the-best NYO athletes compete at the Anchorage Dena’ina Center this weekend for the 41st annual Native Youth Olympics statewide games.
PAMYUA’s performance is free and open to the public – 6pm Saturday. Don’t miss this wonderful event and be ready to come-and-dance with PAMYUA for an invitational. Thank you to ANTHC for sponsoring our concert and to the CITC staff for your dedication and hard work.
The Native Youth Olympics respects the ancestral traditions of indigenous games in Alaska. A majority of the events originate from Inupiat whaling tradition. For over 41 years NYO continues their proud history celebrating Alaska’s indigenous heritage through community-wide competition. Anyone in Alaska schools can participate in the event. The statewide competition this weekend hosts the top placing competitors from their respective communities and regions. This experience strengthens cultural appreciation and individual integrity of its athletes.
Phillip Blanchett has produced two documentaries about the games tradition. We’ll definitely continue posting content and information about this topic. So keep checking. – QUYANA
